Full Job Description

Operates a paver for complex leveling and pavement placement. Operates asphalt distributor (driver or backend) in roadway bituminous retreat work to seal cracked surfaces and restore life to road surfaces. Serves as crew leader, leading a crew of 2-3 employees. Assists the foreman as needed. Operates a tandem dump truck in hauling maintenance and construction materials such as concrete pipe, asphalt, dirt, etc. Instructs crew members in safety practices such as setting up traffic control during flagging operations, wearing proper PPE, vehicle safety or jobsite hazards. Produces daily records of work performed and materials used, the maintenance requests and complaints, and the crew's time and records into the HMMS system. Performs other related maintenance duties as assigned by Foreman, RMF, ARME, and /or RME. Assumes foreman's duties and responsibilities during his absence. Subject to be called/on-call after normal working hours. Performs duties using manual labor, in such maintenance tasks as clearing of right-of-ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, patching potholes, making base repairs to bridges, paving driveways and laying sideline/crossline pipes. Operates and maintains electric/gas powered tools in all phases of roadway maintenance (chainsaw, weed eater, drills, jack wrench, shovel, rake, tamp, lute board, air compressor, etc.) Operates and maintains heavy motorized equipment such as belt loader, backhoe, tandem dump truck/trailer, sand spreader, front end loader, snow plow, sweeper, paint truck, etc. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Two and one-half (2.5) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
