Full Job Description
At Lexington Maintenance, serves as crew leader on a Specialty Crew working with the concrete crew in forming drainage structure, sidewalks, and handicap ramps, finishing concrete work,mixing concrete and laying brick and block. Operates concrete saw, jack hammer and power tolls to work with forming and preparation of concrete. Hand work is necessary in smoothing the concrete for curbing. Dresses area and ensures all tools are placed back on the truck before leaving the job site. Serves as assistant foreman in absence of regular foreman. This includes keeping the crew busy and productive. Keeps up with work performed, completes daily work reports and completing time sheets. Enters information into the HMMS system. Operates backhoe county wide cleaning pipe and drainage structures during day and night operations. Uses the proper techniques in maintaining the operation of the backhoe. Assists with all county wide bridge repairs. Operates 5 yard dump truck and maintains preventive maintenance program. Hauls material such as gravel, sand and asphalt from vendor to job site and/or pull equipment. Ensures tarp is in place and all loose material is off the sides and tailgate of truck. Sets up traffic control devices to warn motorist of roadwork ahead according to the South Carolina Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Works as required or as necessary during hazardous weather or other emergencies to ensure safety of the motoring public.
Requirements
Two and one-half (2.5) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
