This job involves leading a team of workers to maintain highways, repair concrete structures like sidewalks and curbs, handle drainage projects with heavy equipment, and respond to emergencies like snow removal or storm cleanup.
It requires supervising daily tasks, ensuring safety with traffic control, and keeping records.
A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in road maintenance, leadership skills, and the ability to work outdoors in tough conditions.
Serves as Crew Leader of a crew of skilled and semi-skilled Highway Maintenance Workers performing maintenance activities on roads and right of ways.
Activities may include county wide concrete repairs to include, but not limited to sidewalks, curb and gutters, catch basins and installing driveways.
Assists in supervising county-wide drainage projects requiring a backhoe and/or excavator for drainage or routine concrete repairs.
Assists other crews with projects as deemed necessary by the Resident Maintenance Engineer.
Assists in maintaining weekly and monthly reports, and time sheets; Assists in maintaining all paperwork and reports (HMMS) that are essential to the department.
Assists in supervising and coordinating crew in the removal of snow and ice from roadways and storm damage. Assists in the removal of snow/ice and debris during inclement weather.
Sets up traffic control according to MUTCD and SCDOT Standards to warn motorists of road work ahead. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards.
May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.
Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
