Summary

Full Job Description

At Lexington Maintenance, operates equipment such as excavator or tractor with ditcher pulling shoulders, cleaning out ditches, clearing right-of-ways and repairing washouts. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment. Maintains a positive water flow and protects the integrity of the roadway. Operates backhoe/front end loader to lay pipe for driveways and other drainage structures, repairing shoulders, clearing right-of-ways and repairing bridges. Sets up traffic control devices according to the South Carolina Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Ensures all signs and cones are displayed correctly. Keeps alert at all times. Flags traffic according to the standards set when needed. Clears right-of-way of hazards such as tree or limbs by use of the chain saw. All debris is picked up and loaded onto the truck. Works with debris crew that travels to different counties and districts to assist in clean up after major storms. Ensures all safety procedures are followed when operating the chain saw. Operates medium to heavy equipment in emergencies and/or hazardous weather. Operates a belt loader when working with the ditching crew.

Requirements

One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.

Additional Information

May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
