Full Job Description
Operates and maintains medium duty equipment such as tandem dump trucks, skid steer loaders, aggregate spreaders, self-propelled belt loaders and combination tractors with side mounted mowers. Performs duties using manual labor, in such maintenance as clearing of the right-of ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, patching potholes, making base repairs, repairs to bridges, paving driveways and laying sideline/cross line pipe. Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers, motoring public and equipment. Operates 5 to 10 yard standard dump truck for hauling materials such as asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe, construction materials and debris. Operates and maintains electric/gas powered tools including chain saws and pole saws and uses hand tools in various phases of roadway maintenance. Assists in emergencies and inclement weather operations which may include working hours outside of normal work schedule. When crew is in an "on-call" status, employee is available 24 hours a day. Assists in the operation of backhoe, excavator, motor grader, slope mower and tractor with ditcher. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
