Full Job Description
Operates medium equipment, such as tandem dump truck, belt loader, large roller > 4 tons and skid steer loader for hauling equipment and materials such as: asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe, construction materials, dead tree and debris. Assists in the operation of a backhoe in cleaning ditches and installing sideline and crossline pipes, loading of materials needed of maintenance operations, e.g. earth materials, clay, sand and aggregate and clearing fallen trees and debris from roadway and right-of-way., etc. Operates and maintains electric/gas powered tools in various phases of roadway maintenance (e.g. chain saw, cutting tree/tree removal), concrete saw, shovel, bush axes, tamp, lute board, weed eater, drills, wrenches, trowel, air compressor, jack hammer, etc. Assists in setting up and flagging traffic according to MUTCD Standards to control flow of traffic, protect workers, general public and equipment. Assists in the operation of a street sweeper (motorized) snow plow, sand spreader, {assisting in emergency operations} to sweep, clean, and maintain roads. Assists in emergencies and inclement weather operations, which may include working hours outside of normal work schedule. When crew is in an "on-call" status employee is available 24 hours a day. Performs manual labor in building catch basins, pouring concrete for curbs, sidewalk and raised median, laying pipes for driveways and other drainage structures, repairing shoulders, clearing right-of-ways and repairing bridges. Performs preventive maintenance, conducts, documents pre-operation vehicle/equipment as outlined in equipment manual. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
