In this role, you will plan, schedule, and provide direct supervision to a crew of equipment operators and laborers who use a variety of heavy construction equipment and hand tools to perform a full range of general highway maintenance activities.
These activities include patching, crack sealing, shoulder stabilization and repair, installing and cleaning drainage pipes, guide rail installation, roadway sweeping, litter pickup, pothole repair, roadway widening, complaint investigation and resolution, and directing emergency responses to snow and ice events, storm damage, or vehicle accidents.
You will maintain clear and accurate records of all field activities and immediately report unusual occurrences, crew injuries, equipment accidents, or damage.
You will also investigate highway-related complaints, respond promptly and appropriately, and review road log records to assess conditions within your assigned area.
This information will help you recommend priorities and assist in planning effective work operations and estimates.
Your responsibilities include recommending and scheduling scopes of work, workforce needs, equipment, and materials to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.
You will supervise and train crew members in the proper use of tools and equipment, correct maintenance methods and procedures, and ensure that all materials and workmanship meet established specifications and standards.
You will select and direct the appropriate work-zone traffic control setups and take the lead in maintaining a safe work environment for yourself, your crew, and the traveling public by following proper safety procedures and ensuring the correct use of equipment.
Additionally, you will promote awareness of work-area conditions and implement proactive measures to prevent accidents and injuries.
You will report all personal injuries or accidents immediately, provide first aid when appropriate, and ensure prompt medical treatment to reduce the risk of further harm.
