This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Capitol Grounds and Arboretum, Maintenance Division, Mechanical Operations Branch.

The Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Assistant Supervisor perform automotive mechanic and small engine repair work and provides guidance to subordinate staff.

Must possess a valid state motor vehicle operator's license, a valid state Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and complete AOC Forklift Certification within six months after appointment.

You must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of the job announcement. You must meet the following SCREEN-OUT(S) required for this position.

SCREEN-OUT: Proven ability to supervise subordinates in the performance of heavy mobile equipment mechanical work. ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification is highly desired Major Duties:

**This position is considered essential during emergency closures and uses a wide variety of equipment for snow removal and deicing operations.** Supervisory Responsibilities Serves as a working assistant supervisor.

Assigns duties to and evaluates their performance. Manages the budget and workload of the branch.

Develops performance requirements and creates individual development plans for subordinates and ensures a mutual understanding of the performance standards.

Resolves complaints and grievances as delegated by higher-level supervisors. Provides leadership to ensure support for equal employment opportunity (EEO) goals and requirements.

Provides for employee skills enrichment through job related coaching, mentoring and training.

Assists the supervisor with branch work operations and employees engaged in maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel powered truck and automotive equipment and power and hand mowers, gasoline trimmer and edger machines, body and fender repairs; body and frame welding; and body painting; and sharpening lawn mower blades.

Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Tasks Troubleshoots problems with heavy-duty machinery, engines, parts and systems. Detects faulty items, determine causes of malfunctions and best repair methods.

Assembles, disassembles, repairs or modifies components and systems. Provides technical direction to all mechanics.

Automotive Mechanic Tasks Is required to maintain a valid Department of Transportation (DOT) physical card. Annual physicals will be monitored by the AOC.

Shares responsibility for work performed by Automotive Mechanics and performs individual assignments such as fuel delivery, island management, inventory management, vehicle safety inspection, handicap space, road and lot painting, dispatching and managing vehicles and equipment, researching to obtain quotes, and ordering parts and equipment.

Performs major automotive repairs such as replacing fuel injection pumps and injectors on diesel motors, hydraulic cylinder replacement on a sewer vacuum; replacement of the particulate filter on a trash truck emission system, and removal and replacement of a motor from a skid steer loader.

Assists in the management of all operations associated with the Automotive Shop, Small Engine Shop, Welding / Fabricating Equipment Operators and Motor Vehicle Operators.

Assists in the management and operations of all events that require the assistance of Capitol Grounds and Arboretum staff and motor vehicles.

Assists in the management of agency-wide fleet vehicle safety inspection program. Assists with ordering parts and materials.

Manages all work orders for the Automotive and Small Engine shop, as well as demand work orders for equipment and material handling.

Is responsible for utilizing a thorough knowledge of and compliance with applicable AOC and OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions in managed areas.

Provides or receives training, either on the job or through classroom training to ensure that all direct reports know how to use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Routinely checks to verify that subordinates are using all required PPE.
