Full Job Description

Pay Schedule II, Grade H20, Regular Schedule: 40 hours per week A vacancy exists in the Office of Budget and Finance, Division of Property Management.

Requirements

Under close supervision, performs beginning and intermediate level service, maintenance, and repair to heating, air conditioning, refrigerating, and ventilating equipment, and assists higher skilled workers with more complex installation and repairs.

Examples of Essential Duties
  • Cleans, lubricates, and adjusts electrical, plumbing, refrigerating, ventilating, exhaust, and control systems associated with heating and air conditioning equipment and accessories. Replaces and disposes of refrigerant chemicals.
  • Performs beginning and intermediate level installation and repair of equipment and accessories. Replaces components of large equipment as instructed. Removes and installs window units.
  • Assists with and learns major repair, installation, and maintenance procedures for heating and air conditioning units, pumps, and related equipment, controls, and accessories.
  • Drives an automobile or light truck to transport workers, tools, or equipment to and from job sites.

Examples of Other Duties May prepare lists of parts and supplies needed for specific jobs. May provide instructions to lesser skilled workers or helpers on a specific job.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Two years' experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, air conditioning, refrigerating, and ventilating equipment Related education may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to two years of the required experience.

Licenses and CertificatesPossession of Type I and Type II E.P.A.-approved refrigerant certification for technicians is required at the time of appointment.

Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.

Proof of Licenses, Certifications and EducationApplicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position.

Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

Failure to submit proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education will result in your application not being considered.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.

Employees in this classification are designated as Emergency/Essential and may be required to work overtime with little or no advanced notice.

Persons in this classification are subject to call to duty in emergencies and subject to standby duty for after-hours emergencies on a rotating basis.

Physical and Environmental Conditions The work of this classification entails performance of heavy physical labor including bending, stooping, climbing ladders, lifting and carrying very heavy objects, and the operation of motor vehicles, and hand and power tools.

Some work requires exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as adverse weather and electricity.

Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation
Applicants selected for an appointment to a position in Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination and drug screen and an employment background investigation, including, but not limited to a criminal background, education, and fingerprint check.
