The Washington Military Department (WMD) is seeking a skilled HVAC Technician to join our construction and facilities team, located at Camp Murray, WA. This position plays an important role in maintaining comfortable, efficient, and safe building environments for our employees and the public. This position works under the general supervision of the Maintenance Mechanic 4 and is a fully qualified HVAC Technician responsible for performing journey level maintenance work required to accomplish all phases of building maintenance and construction work.

Requirements
Responsibilities include:- Journey-level HVAC work in the completion of assigned preventive maintenance, maintenance and repair, and non-repair efforts.
- HVAC control management through the National Guard Bureau (NGB) Energy Management Control System (EMCS).
- Provide HVAC review of construction plans, equipment, and controls on remodels, upgrades, and/or new construction.
- Assist grounds and custodial crews as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Journey level standing as a refrigeration mechanic or steamfitter as attested by: - Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in refrigeration or steamfitter trades, OR
- Full journey level status in Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union, OR
- Five years of experience in refrigeration and/or steamfitter's trade, OR
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
Vocational or trade school training as a steamfitter or refrigeration mechanic will substitute year-for-year for the experience requirement for up to two years of the experience requirement.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONSCertification/License: - 06A Electrical License or Training Card.
- Universal CFC Recovery Certification.
Experience:- Skilled, journey-level experience in HVAC maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment.
Knowledge of:- Standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in mechanical trades and HVAC work.
- Principles of operation of HVAC systems.
- Occupational hazards and safety practices of the HVAC trade.
Skills, abilities, and competencies to:- Read plans and blueprints for buildings, infrastructure systems, equipment, etc.
- Consult with supervisors and make recommendations about repairs/remodeling work needed.
- Operate standard office equipment (computer, telephone, copier, scanner, etc.).
- The ability to take action to learn and grow.
- The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.
Additional Information
Compensation: Wage/salary depends on qualifications or rules of promotion.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Background Investigation: Must successfully complete the appropriate background checks required for employment and to obtain/maintain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) in order to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret-level security clearance. Must be willing to sign releases of information and shall not have access to any investigative materials and files. The processing of background checks can take up to six months post-employment. Failure to successfully pass a background check may be cause for termination.

Driver's License:
- Valid to drive in the State of Washington.
- Must meet requirements of the REAL ID Act. This is required for base access and will be required upon hire.
Military Facility:
Willingness to work on a Military Controlled Access Installation.
Camp Murray utilizes the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) for entry to the installation. Must meet access requirements / background check which can be found in the
Camp Murray Access Requirements Policy (Unified Policy No. 18-01). This includes possession of an Enhanced Driver’s License, or other REAL ID Compliant Identification.
Work Hours:
A choice between a Tuesday through Friday (4/10 schedule): Monday through Thursday (4/10 schedule): or Monday through Friday (5/8 schedule). Actual hours will start no earlier than 6:00 am and end no later than 6:00 pm and will include core business hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Telework:
This position is not eligible for telework.
Emergency Assignment:
Upon activation of the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) or Joint Field Office (JFO), incumbent may be required to work in an alternate location with rotating shifts, including weekends and evenings, in a highly stressful and fast-paced environment.
Travel:
Occasional statewide travel may be required up to 5% to include overnight stays.
