Full Job Description

This Health Technician - Surgical/Specialty Care position supports the Nursing, Perioperative Service of the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System and is located at the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center in Aurora, CO.

The primary purpose of this position is to support clinical day-to-day operations related to technical health care procedures under the supervision of Licensed Providers.

This position performs ongoing patient care duties in an outpatient clinical setting.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/24/2026.

Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR)Specialized Experience: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists.

Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Assisting with clinic flow to ensure smooth flow of patients through clinics.

Instructing new health technicians and supporting new members orientation. Screening patients for complaints, medical history, and personal information. Obtaining vital signs.

Documenting information into electronic health records. Collecting, labeling, and transporting specimens. Performing Electrocardiograms (EKGs).

Major duties include but are not limited to: Answering phone calls Documenting inpatient medical records and clinical records appropriately Assisting with clinic flow to ensure smooth flow of patients through clinics Instructing new health technicians and supporting new members orientation Providing simple care (example would care) as directed by clinician Educating patient and family members about home self-care Observing patient and informing nurse/physician of unusual situation Screening patients for complaints, medical history, and personal information Obtaining vital signs.

Documenting information into electronic health records Assisting in scheduling and post-procedure care Preparing patient examination areas.
