Full Job Description

The Diagnostic Imaging Service is recruiting a Health Technician (Radiology) at The Villages VA Outpatient clinic.

This position supports the General Diagnostic Radiology, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine and Interventional Radiology sections.

The incumbent is responsible for a wide variety of duties requiring the ability to interact with patients, physicians, nurses, radiologic technologists, radiology residents and radiologists, as well as other ancillary hospital personnel.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Individual Occupational Requirement: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists.

Therefore, you are required to have technician experience, which is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.

In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirement, applicants must also meet the specialized experience.

GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Specialized experience includes, but are not limited to: Provides quality customer service, explains all studies to patient in a clear, professional manner and provides information and resources to patient and family.

Communicates effectively with patients, their families and all care providers. Checks orders for complete information, protocol, and appropriateness criteria for specific modality.

Checks the patient's electronic chart for potential interactions, abnormal lab results or patient conditions that could make it unsafe for the patient to have the requested procedure.

Performs daily testing, documentation, replacement, and maintenance of the Crash Cart equipment.

Major Duties:

The Health Technician (Radiology) functions effectively as a vital member of the Diagnostic Imaging team when cooperative efforts are needed to complete patient procedures and provide a high level of patient satisfaction and safety for patients and team members.

Duties include but are not limited to: Provides quality customer service, explains all studies to patient in a clear, professional manner and provides information and resources to patient and family.

Checks the order for complete information, protocol and appropriateness criteria for specific modality.

Checks the patient's electronic chart for potential interactions, abnormal lab results or patient conditions that could make it unsafe for the patient to have the requested procedure.

Performs daily testing, documentation, replacement and maintenance of the Crash Cart equipment. Assists with coordination of work assignments to ensure a smooth workflow.

Assists technologists and staff with the use and operation of ancillary equipment.

Arranges in-house transportation for inpatients, ER and outpatients and ensures transportation of patients is completed in a timely manner.

Receives and directs patients to the appropriate procedure room based on type of procedure that will be performed.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Health Technician (Radiology)/PD059040 Physical Requirements: Physical demands are usually moderate: Lifting objects up to 40 pounds, moving specialized equipment and assisting patients from a gurney to a procedure or scan table.

Occasionally, the technician assists with the moving of heavy equipment or large patients but this is done with the assistance of others to minimize the danger to the individual.

Since many of the imaging procedures are performed using x-ray, the incumbent frequently works in and around x-ray producing equipment, requiring the use of a lead apron and other protective equipment.

During a procedure, standing for extended periods while wearing a lead apron, is necessary. The incumbent must also work at a computer desk at times.
