Job Description

Summary

This job involves supporting ear, nose, and throat (ENT) doctors in a military clinic by handling patient check-ins, preparing for surgeries, managing supplies, and assisting during procedures.

About the Position: This position performs as a Health Technician (Otolaryngology) performing a combination of technical and administrative (non-professional) tasks related to the treatment and care of patients (inpatient/ambulatory) in Otolaryngology/ENT clinic within the Medical Treatment.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. A recruitment incentive may be authorized.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service which includes 1) Updating electronic medical records using automated computer systems; 2) Preparing sterile fields for surgical procedures; 3) Monitoring medical supply inventories; and 4) Processing laboratory specimens for diagnostic testing.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Major Duties:

  • Direct the flow of patients; obtain medical and personal data and accurately transcribe into the patient medical record (hard copy and/or electronic) according to established techniques and procedures.
  • Prepare schedules for daily appointments, conduct check-in procedures, and records data utilizing automated computer-based systems.
  • Administer basic medications via atomizer in accordance with surgeons’ orders and standard operating procedures.
  • Prepare, perform, handle and documents specimens and arrange for laboratory and other tests.
  • Serve as a Scrub Technician and Circulator in the operating room for variety of complex Otolaryngology procedures.
  • Assist anesthetist during induction and throughout surgical procedure.
  • Maintain aseptic techniques maintenance during the process of preparing for and assisting in the surgical procedure.
  • Perform counseling and/or educational teaching to patients under the guidance of nurses, interns, residents and staff physicians.
  • Ensure the sterile condition and adequacy of supplies in patient care areas and storage rooms.
  • Perform inventory of assigned examining rooms to ensure adequate supplies are in stock.
  • Prepare schedules for daily appointments, conduct check-in procedures, and records data utilizing automated computer-based systems.
  • Manage inventory, cleans and stocks exam and operating rooms with the appropriate equipment and disposables and follow relevant infection control, safety, and equipment management procedures.
