Job Description

Summary

This job involves supporting orthopedic care in a military hospital by assisting doctors with patient treatments, applying braces and splints, and preparing surgery areas.

It also includes helping with patient check-ins, escorting them around the facility, and managing supplies.

A good fit would be someone with healthcare experience or related education who is detail-oriented, comfortable in a fast-paced medical setting, and able to work with patients compassionately.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience assisting physicians with orthopedic patient treatments, including fitting off-the-shelf devices like splints, slings, and walking boots
  • Experience preparing and cleaning treatment areas and sterile fields while maintaining supplies and equipment

About the Position: This announcement is being used to fill a Health Technician (Orthopedic) position in the Department of Surgery at Army Medical Center Madigan.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting physicians in the treatment of orthopedic patients; fitting and applying off the shelf Orthopedic devices including splints, slings, walking boots; preparing and cleaning treatment areas and sterile fields while maintaining necessary supplies and equipment.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04) OR Education: Four-year course Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position such as Orthopedics, Health Technician, Health Science.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. Major Duties:

  • Apply correct positioning techniques to support patient comfort and avoid injury or worsening conditions.
  • Prepare and set up the fracture table for body cast application.
  • Perform routine inventory checks and maintain proper storage and security of all supplies and equipment.
  • Prepare operative areas for surgery following established instructions and standard procedures.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms while providing directions throughout the clinic and hospital.
  • Support front desk staff with patient check in and phone monitoring.
