Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a consultant to improve how patients access care in a military hospital, by analyzing clinic operations, managing appointments, and ensuring efficient use of resources to reduce costs and boost quality.

It supports the TRICARE health program for military members and their families.

A good fit would be someone with experience in healthcare administration or data analysis, who enjoys problem-solving in a structured government setting.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience in preparing statistical reports, using automated data systems for medical clinics, and planning patient appointments
  • OR a Master's degree or equivalent in hospital administration, public health, business, or public administration with health care focus

About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing statistical analysis reports; utilizing automated data systems for medical clinic; planning and/or coordinating patient appointments.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.

Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Major Duties:

  • Serves as Access to Care (ATC) Consultant for SAMMC Clinical Departments.
  • Work involves in-depth knowledge of the missions, organizations, regulations, standards, benefits, and requirements of the TRICARE program and the Military Health System (MHS).
  • Identifies the need for analyses, reports, or statistical reviews in support of the TRICARE health care delivery system to reduce overall government and beneficiary cost for health care while increasing the access and quality of care provide.
  • Assess clinic operations and appointment utilization patterns to identify bottlenecks and to maximize use of available resources.
  • Monitors appointment standardization compliance and access metrics for all clinics within the MTF.
  • Assists in developing and implementing business rules for optimization initiatives such as appointing and template scheduling, the management of referrals and authorizations by simplifying, integrating and standardizing the process.
