Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping U.S.

Marines and their families deal with personal issues like suicide, sexual assault, harassment, and abuse by providing guidance, education, and access to resources to improve well-being and prevent problems.

It focuses on building skills through group sessions and tracking program effectiveness in a military setting in Japan.

A good fit would be someone with experience in social services or counseling who enjoys teaming up with others to support mental health and promote positive behaviors.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-09 level or equivalent, including working with professionals to prevent suicide, sexual assault, sexual harassment, domestic abuse, child abuse, and other problematic behaviors
  • Experience conducting group psycho-education to build skills and promote protective factors
  • Providing evidence-based or evidence-informed social emotional skill building prevention and education, approved by headquarters
  • Basic requirements for Social Science Series 0101 from the Office of Personnel Management

Please see Additional Information section below.*** You will serve as a HEALTH PROMOTION SPECIALIST (PREV WF) in the US MARINE CORPS of MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP BUTLER.

All applications received on the day the application limit is reached will be accepted and processed In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Working with other professionals to help prevent suicide, sexual assault, sexual harassment, domestic abuse, child abuse, and other problematic behaviors; conducting group psycho-education to build skills to promote protective factors; AND providing evidence-based or evidence-informed, headquarters-approved social emotional skill building prevention and education..

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will provide information, assistance and guidance to members of the unit in meeting personal and family problems beyond the scope of their own resources
  • You will provide Marines with an organized system for bringing together all available resources for the relief of personal problems having an adverse effect upon performance, morale, and retention of skilled manpower.
  • You will collect metrics and reports data in support of measures of performance and measures of effectiveness to the installation Behavioral Programs Branch, for input to Headquarters, Marine Corps.
  • You will build cognitive regulation, emotion, and interpersonal skills in Marines who participate in prevention education that aims to prevent sexual assault, sexual harassment, domestic abuse, and other problematic behaviors.
  • You will facilitate awareness of and accessibility to available services for Marines and their families.
  • You will promote help-seeking behavior to include the use of solutions that employ all available resources.
