Summary

This job involves traveling to nursing homes and long-term care facilities across Pennsylvania to inspect their operations, check if they follow state and federal rules, and ensure residents receive good care.

The Department of Health is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team in the Division of Nursing Care Facilities.

By conducting inspections and surveys of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, you will evaluate their compliance with various regulations.

Requirements

In this position, you will evaluate long term care health care providers and facilities for compliance with state and federal regulations.

Your work will involve evaluating the quality of care and services provided to residents at these facilities and investigating complaints.

You will conduct surveys, which may include annual health surveys, in-office or on-site visits, and abuse investigations.

Some of your duties will include using gathered information to prepare for surveys, drafting citations, writing reports on your findings, and reviewing plans of correction.

Additionally, you will assist in coaching new surveyors, provide training opportunities, and contribute to evaluating the performance of new surveyors.


Travel throughout the state, including overnight trips and frequent travel within Philadelphia and part of Bucks, Delaware, and Montgomery counties, is necessary. You will be required to carry a cell phone and respond to complaints during off-hours.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime may be necessary to complete the job duties.
  • This position requires irregular work hours and frequent travel, including statewide and overnight travel.
  • This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:
  • All positions require active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
  • All positions require successful completion of the relevant provider-specific federally mandated training provided by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services within one year of hire.
  • This position requires successful completion of the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) within one year of hire.
  • All positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.
