Summary

This role involves working as a breastfeeding counselor at a WIC office in Elkins, West Virginia, where you'll provide support and education to pregnant and new mothers to encourage breastfeeding, conduct follow-up calls, distribute supplies, and assist with basic health checks like measuring height, weight, and hemoglobin.

It's a good fit for someone with personal experience breastfeeding who enjoys helping families, has basic computer skills, and is comfortable driving for work-related tasks.

The position is part-time, four days a week, and focuses on community health support.

Key Requirements

  • Positive past or present breastfeeding experience

Full Job Description

Work at Elkins WIC Office 4 days a week.

Serve as Breastfeeding Counselor; provide breastfeeding counseling to prenatal clients with objective of promoting breastfeeding.

Teach classes to prenatal clients in individual & group setting, distribute materials to prenatal clients, conduct prenatal & postpartum follow-up calls to clients, distribute breastfeeding accessories to mothers, keep inventory of supplies & materials, participate in special projects & activities that foster breastfeeding, assist clerical staff in answering phone as necessary and may perform heights, weight, and hemoglobin in the medical room.

Other duties as assigned. Must have experience with computers and must be able to learn WIC computer program.

Qualifications

Training: Must be able to pass a written test at the eighth grade level.

Special Requirements for the Division of Health:
Applicant must be certified as a Home Health Aide or must successfully pass the written competency evaluation given by the local agency prior to employment. Certification requires completion of a minimum of 75 hours of training including a minimum 16 hours of practicum. Applicant must possess a current driver's license and availability of a car for continuous use shall be a prerequisite for employment.

Note: For positions designated as Breastfeeding Counselor, WIC, positive past or present breastfeeding experience required.
