Summary
This role involves leading the provision of religious and pastoral care services in a state prison system, including overseeing chaplains, ensuring inmates' religious rights are respected, and coordinating programs across facilities.
A good fit would be an experienced ordained religious leader with strong administrative skills and a background in clinical pastoral work, who is passionate about supporting spiritual needs in a correctional environment.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with relevant program experience (state minimum)
- Master of Divinity degree or equivalent

- Current ecclesiastical endorsement

- At least 6 years of pastoral experience
- 1 year full-time experience as a chaplain in a clinical setting

- Successful completion of 4 weeks of SCDC Basic Training
Full Job Description
Provides administration of pastoral care/religious services for SCDC, to include recruiting, hiring, training, and supervision, and providing technical assistance to a variety of staff.
Monitors policies and manage requests, ensuring religious freedom of inmates is protected, while representing the agency in resolving issues that arise in this area.
Serves as a technical expert in religious services and coordinates agency work assignments among chaplains.
Meets regularly with other regional chaplains to ensure statewide continuity of care across the agency, including creating reports about work.

Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

SCDC Minimum Requirements:
