This temporary job helps create visual materials like brochures and layouts for elections in San Mateo County, focusing on clear and engaging designs to inform the public.

A good fit would be someone detail-oriented with experience in graphic design who can handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
One year of college or technical school training in the use of computers, spreadsheets, graphics and desktop publishing and two years of experience in performing any combination of word processing and desktop publishing work, which has included performing layout and the production of camera-ready copy.
Knowledge of: Graphic design concepts, materials, techniques, and equipment used in commercial art.Federal accessibility standards for web design.Operating principles and practices of multiple word processing/spreadsheet database programs such as WORD and EXCEL.Operating principles and practices of multiple desktop publishing/graphics programs such as Adobe Creative Cloud.Techniques for estimating time and processes required to meet the document needs of the client.Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.Proper format for business correspondence, reports, and informational materials.
Skill/Ability to: Operate a variety of word processing, spreadsheet and desktop publishing hardware and software in a production setting.Estimate the time and materials required to produce a desired finished product.Design distinctive commemorative election pins.Maintain department’s public facing website (www.smcacre.org) and the intranet site.Create visually empowering PowerPoint presentations.Proofread and produce accurate and complete work.Organize and prioritize work and meet critical time deadlines.Maintain accurate logs, records, and files of work performed.Establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with those contacted in the course of the work.
Sit for an extended period at a video display terminal and use a keyboard while maintaining attention to detail. Perform related duties as assigned. Additional Information This is an open recruitment.
