GENERAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT
Graffiti Removal Technician
(Seasonal)

Under general supervision, perform a variety of duties involved in the removal of graffiti from city owned properties, structures and parks and perform general cleaning in municipal buildings and facilities.

Requirements

Survey building, structures etc. to determine what tasks are to be performed and decipher art from graffiti. Use chemical solvents to remove the graffiti as necessary.

Stir and ensure proper consistency of graffiti remover solution.Power wash buildings structures, viaducts, traffic signs and other city own property to remove graffiti.Load and unload materials, supplies, and equipment on and off trucks in a proper and safe manner.Operate specialized vehicles and equipment.Trim bushes and remove debris to access hard to reach areas on buildings, structures, etc.Apply shadow remover product to remove shadowed graffiti that wasn’t originally removed.Perform custodial duties that includes, but is not limited to, sweeping, mopping, waxing, stripping, sealing cleaning floors, emptying and cleaning waste receptacles, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, offices, kitchens and cafeterias.

Qualifications Qualifications (required):High School graduation or G.E.D. (General Education Development)

  • One (1) year of experience in the removal of graffiti preferred but not required.
  • Aerial Platform Work Permit preferred but not required.

  • Licenses, Certifications, and Other Special Requirements:

    • Valid State of Michigan Operator License.

    • Ability to read and write English and understand and follow oral instructions.

    • Ability to operate and maintain graffiti removal equipment.

    • Ability to practice safe handling of cleaning agents with chemicals, cleaning equipment, storage, and use of materials.

    • Ability to determine art from graffiti.

    • Ability to interact effectively with subordinates, department personnel and others with tact and diplomacy.

    Physical Demands

    • The work is characterized as active. The Graffiti Removal Attendant bends, lifts and transports heavy objects and operations a variety of maintenance equipment.

    Work Environment

    • Work is performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to seasonal weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, dust, soot and pollen.
