Selects, compounds, and dispenses drugs and other pharmaceutical products ordered by physicians, dentist, and other licensed medical practitioners, including calculation and preparation of solutions for oral, external, intramuscular, and intravenous administration.
Monitors the condition of patients through observation of physical or laboratory reactions to drug therapy and reports findings to attending physician, suggesting changes in drug therapy as indicated; may be assigned management of chronic disease patients subject to periodic review of medical staff.
Screens prescriptions and medication orders for completeness, proper authorization, dosage and quantity, therapeutic compatibility, drug interactions and allergies and clarifies possible problems with appropriate medical staff.
Reviews patients' charts and medication regiments; takes drug histories and participates with physicians in the selection and monitoring of drug therapy for individual patients.
Provides patient consultation and appropriate drug information and guidance to health care professionals.
Performs detailed record-keeping activities and compiles summary reports of drug use, drug cost, inventory balances, and related pharmacy activities.
Participates in collecting and analyzing data related to medication errors, drug intervention, and adverse drug reactions and discrepancies associated with the Medication Administrative Record (MAR).
Participates in the planning and implementation of drug research by reviewing protocols and writing dispensing procedures; acts as a liaison between pharmacy and study coordinators.
Attends and actively participates in meetings, conferences, and seminars for the purpose of upgrading professional skills and sharing information on recent developments in the fields of pharmacology and pharmaceutics.
Utilizes pharmacy and other medication-related computerized information systems.
Performs other related pharmacist work as required.
A valid certificate of registration as an Intern Pharmacist with the California State Board of Pharmacy -and- written notification from the California State Board of Pharmacy certifying eligibility to take the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX) and the California Pharmacist Jurisprudence Examination (CPJE)**.
**Individuals who have been recruited for employment from outside the State that have taken and passed the NAPLEX after December 31, 2003 require written notification from the California State Board of Pharmacy certifying eligibility to take the CPJE.
*ACCREDITATION: Accredited institutions are those listed in the publications of regional, national or international accrediting agencies which are accepted by the Department of Human Resources.
Publications such as American Universities and Colleges and International Handbook of Universities are acceptable references.
Also acceptable, if appropriate, are degrees that have been evaluated and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from United States accredited institutions by an academic credential evaluation agency recognized by The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc.
(AICE).
If you are a veteran, you may be eligible for veteran's credit, which is an additional 10% of the total points added to a passing score.

*To receive credit for your education, include a legible copy of your official diploma, official transcript, or letter/certificate from an accredited institution within seven (7) calendar days from the application submission date.

standards if not listed in the International Handbook of Universities or World Higher Education Database.

PHYSICAL CLASS: II – Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Additional credit will be given to qualified applicants who possess the following desirable qualifications.
EXAMINATION CONTENT:This examination will consist of an evaluation of education, training and desirable qualifications based on information listed on the online application and supplemental questionnaire at the time of filing weighted 100%.
Additional credit will be given for experience related to the desirable qualifications. Applicants must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination to be placed on the eligible list.
ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:The names of applicants receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
SPECIAL INFORMATION:Past and present mental health clients and family members are encouraged to apply.
VACANCY INFORMATION:The resulting eligible list for this examination will be used to fill vacancies within the Department of Mental Health, Pharmacy Services Division.
