Summary

This job involves creating and updating digital maps of land parcels and property boundaries for Marion County, using specialized software to organize and share geographic data with other city agencies.

Full Job Description

This position is responsible for creating and maintaining data and GIS (Geographic Information System) maps relating to land parcels in Marion County. This position will also be responsible for combining geographical reference data for other enterprise agencies to access and use a broad variety of complex information relating to land, boundaries, attributes and uses of property.

Requirements

Creates, revises, and maintains GIS mapping data.Gathers and analyzes data to determine how best to interpolate information displayed using GIS.Designs and updates database applying additional knowledge of spatial data gathered from surveyors.Maintains integrity of files with proper basemap editing of files for accuracy and precision.Plans, designs, develops and implements GIS applications and projects.

This includes creating support documentation through all phases of a project.Supports and advises all persons who visit or call for information.Provides training and support to various user departments and agencies associated with GIS enterprise.

This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time.

Qualifications Associates Degree and a minimum of one (1) year's prior work related experience is required.

One (1) year of prior related work experience may be substituted for each year of required education.

Preference is given for those pursuing bachelor's or advanced degrees in computer graphics or geography.

Proficient computer skills with an emphasis on knowledge of GIS and mapping applications are required. Knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, imaging systems, and other software is required.

Excellent communication skills, including ability to relate effectively to IT professionals orally and in writing, are required.

Strong ability to multitask with an attention to detail and accuracy is required.

Additional Information Position requires the knowledge of established laws, policies and procedures, which controls most of the actions in this position.

Other duties and tasks are routine in nature and performed under moderate supervision following standard procedures.

Independent judgment, subject to supervisory oversight, is used when there are no available policies and procedures.
