This job involves appraising properties to determine fair market values for land acquisitions needed for highway and bridge projects in Pennsylvania's transportation department.

As a General Real Estate Appraiser, you will play a key role in identifying the appropriate methods for assessing property values.
Your responsibilities will include uncovering any concealed issues or omissions not reflected in the plans and reporting minor plan modifications to the supervisor.
If a claimant is involved, these changes will be processed through the Right-of-Way office program, while more significant concerns that could impact deadlines will require a formal response.
You may also be required to attend and testify at Board of View Hearings or court trials regarding appraisals and estimates of damages.In addition, you will provide technical guidance to other project team members regarding the preparation of appraisals and assist district review appraisers to assure conformance with state and federal policies, procedures, and requirements.
You will conduct preliminary field investigations and estimates, coordinate appraisal activities with other right-of-way functions, provide information pertaining to departmental requirements, appraise individual properties, and prepare correspondence pertaining to any appraising activity.
It is essential to provide prompt and accurate customer service relative to property owners' questions or complaints and inform property owners of their rights and Commonwealth obligations.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per pay period.
In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.
If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Indiana. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
