Full Job Description

You will serve as a GENERAL ENGINEER (SPECIAL PROJECTS) in the Engineering Department, Electrical & Electronic Systems Division of SUPERVISOR OF SHIPBUILDING GROTON.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer leading technical personnel to review, analyze, research, or recommend corrective actions for the design, construction, and modernization of complex electrical power systems and components in nuclear submarines, including but not limited to, Switchboards, Panels, Generators, Power Conversion Modules, and Batteries.

  • You will coordinate with the contractor to identify and correct nuclear powered submarine design and construction deficiencies in electrical power generation and distribution systems.
  • You will provide engineering recommendations in the form of technical comments for matters associated with submarine design, construction, testing and repair efforts related to electrical power systems and components.
  • You will confer with Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), contractors and subcontractors representatives to assess the technical adequacy of submarine design, construction, arrangement, testing and operation of electrical power systems and components.
  • You will recommend process improvements for submarine design, operation or fabrication methods.
  • You will provide technical advice and guidance to engineers, technicians and other support personnel on matters affecting submarine design, construction and repair of electrical power systems and components.
  • You will provide technical oversight/leadership to support staff of engineers or technicians to ensure conformity with specification or quality requirements.
  • You will lead/coordinate the review and resolution of significant submarine technical issues that affect multiple engineering disciplines.
  • You will extend and modify existing techniques associated with installation and operation of the various systems found on Fast Attack and Ballistic/Guided Missile nuclear powered submarines under construction, undergoing overhaul or repair.
  • You will review, analyze, research, prepare correspondence, recommend corrective action, consult with the contractor, and participate in conferences pertaining to deficiencies affecting electrical power systems and components.
  • You will apply submarine systems expertise as required for the repair and overhaul of nuclear powered submarines.
  • You will influence technical evolution of design program with the Integrated Process Teams (IPTs) to make sure the latest concepts and automation is used.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain delegated technical authority.
