Full Job Description

This position is located in Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, the Maintenance Division.

The primary purpose of the position is to perform building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties. Open to the first 40 applicants or until 04/15/2026 whichever comes first.

Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Must be able to perform in special working conditions i.e. inclement weather, heat, cold, at night, and with long periods of standing.

You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.

You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Work demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision.

Applicants must provide proof of residency within the defined vicinity (e.g. mortgage or property deed, lease/rental agreement, utility bill, insurance policy, etc.). Major Duties:

The major duties of the Maintenance Mechanic WG-4749-10 position include, but are not limited to, the following: Performs preventive maintenance to all plumbing and mechanical equipment and parts.

Installs, modifies, and repairs plumbing fixtures (bathtubs, showers, toilets, sinks, water fountains, and their associated hardware).

Installs, modifies, and repairs new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers, and lay out of such things as angles, arcs, and circles.

Installs and makes repairs to sewer drain systems (these include septic tanks, drain fields, sewage lift pumps, and related piping).

Constructs, alters, modifies, or repairs a wide range of features in buildings, quarters and other facilities.

Performs painting duties with little oversight and/or review of work during progress or upon completion.
