Job Description

Summary

This job involves operating and maintaining fuel systems at a naval station in Hawaii, including pumping fuel to ships and aircraft, monitoring equipment for inventory control, and reclaiming used fuel by separating out contaminants.

It's a hands-on role in the Bulk Fuel Department where you'll document operations and ensure safe fuel distribution.

A good fit would be someone with practical experience in fuel handling or mechanical trades who works well independently and pays close attention to safety and details.

Key Requirements

  • Ability to operate pumps for fueling and defueling operations without more than normal supervision
  • Skill in reading, recording, and documenting fuel transfer information using manual or automated methods
  • Experience issuing fuel from distribution facilities to ships, tanks, aircraft, or tank trucks
  • Knowledge of operating Fuel Oil Reclamation Facility (FORFAC) to separate fuel into water, oil, sludge, and emulsification
  • Proficiency in using technical orders and manuals to identify and resolve discrepancies
  • Ability to monitor Automated Fuel Handling Equipment (AFHE) for inventory accountability
  • Capacity to record gauge and meter readings for fuel, water, and temperature data

Full Job Description

You will serve as a FUEL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS WORKER in the BULK FUEL DEPARTMENT of NAVAL STATION.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION Operating pumps when performing fueling and defueling operation.

Using manual or automated means to read, record, and properly document information pertaining to fuel transfer operations.

Issuing fuel from fuel distribution facility workstations to ships, tanks, refueling units, aircraft, and/or tank trucks.

Operating the Fuel Oil Reclamation Facility (FORFAC) that reclaims fuel by separating the influent into water, oil, sludge, and emulsification.

Using technical orders and manuals to determine discrepancies.

  • You will use manual or automated means to read, record, and properly document information pertaining to fuel transfer operations.
  • You will record daily readings of gauges and meters, as required, to obtain fuel, water, and temperature readings.
