This job involves working outdoors to protect and manage Pennsylvania's state forests, including enforcing rules, assessing forest health, overseeing timber sales, and collaborating with communities to promote sustainable practices.
A good fit would be someone passionate about conservation who enjoys fieldwork, has forestry knowledge, and is committed to environmental stewardship.
The role offers a chance to make a tangible impact on natural resources and local areas without any remote work options.

In this position, you will act as a State Forest Officer tasked with enforcing State Forest Rules and Regulations while aiding in the protection, management, and regeneration of forest resources.
Your responsibilities will include conducting landscape assessments to evaluate forest health, identify habitat requirements, and determine necessary cultural or silvicultural treatments in line with the State Forest Resource Management Plan.
You will implement these treatments through the Timber Sale Program, oversee timber sale contracts with regular inspections, and contribute to forest fire prevention and suppression efforts.
Additionally, you will gather GPS and field data for timber sales, regeneration initiatives, habitat management, and recreational features, while also preparing reports and maintaining documentation for all assigned duties.
Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with landowners, partner organizations, and government agencies to promote sustainable forest stewardship.
This involves coordinating Rural and Community Forestry activities, offering guidance to private landowners in Elk and Cameron Counties, and representing the Elk Forest District at County Conservation District meetings.
To uphold high work standards and effectively implement the Forest Resource Management Plan, it is crucial to stay updated on professional forestry knowledge through ongoing training and literature review.
