Full Job Description

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is on the lookout for an ambitious Forester to work in the Southwest Region of the state.

This professional forestry work in the conservation, development, management, and use of the commonwealth’s forest resources is crucial for our mission to manage and protect wildlife and their habitats while promoting hunting and trapping for current and future generations.

Requirements

In this Forester position, you will be responsible for all aspects of forest management on state game lands in your assigned region.

This includes the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of programs designed to manage, protect, enhance, and conserve the forest resources.

Work involves preparing forest resource inventory maps and required documents, collecting and analyzing habitat and wildlife data, and implementing specific wildlife habitat considerations.

Communication skills are key as you will also have the opportunity to serve as a lead worker for Forest Technicians and Interns and develop and deliver public information programs.

This position will be headquartered at the Southwest Region Office. The focal management area will be in Cambria County, but work will cover all of the Southwest Region.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Two years of technical forestry experience, and an associate’s degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree; or
• A bachelor’s degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree; or
• A master’s degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree.

Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.

Other Requirements:

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

• This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
  • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
