Requirements

In this role, you will focus on achieving specific objectives within the unit and bureau related to resource management, recreation, and fire control. The position leverages your technical training and experience to contribute effectively to these goals. Your responsibilities will encompass several important tasks to aid forestry initiatives. You will assist foresters in identifying vegetation for the Forest Resource Plan and help mark and designate forest products available for sale from state lands. Furthermore, you will be integral to the district's regeneration program, which includes preparing surveys and maps using GPS and GIS technology. It is also vital to maintain records of herbicide applications for both regeneration efforts and invasive species management.

As a member of the recreation team, you will assist foresters in developing and improving recreational facilities in state forests. Your role will involve operating various vehicles, such as motor vehicles, ATVs, and snowmobiles, to ensure these areas are well-maintained. You will also provide information and support to visitors, helping to create a positive experience. Additionally, organized educational programs will be offered to user groups as needed, fostering awareness and engagement with the natural environment.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal full-time employment. The season runs from approximately March 2026, through November 2026, at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2027.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel and overtime as needed
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • An associate’s degree in forest technology; or
  • Completion of equivalent formal education in forestry.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 6 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Condition of Employment:
  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
