The Pennsylvania Game Commission is on the search for a motivated Forest Technician to join the Northcentral Region of our Forest Management Division. Requirements

As a Forest Technician, you will provide technical support and assistance to Regional Forestry staff in day-to-day activities on State Game Lands with a primary focus on habitat management activities promoting young forests in Wildlife Management Units within the Region.

Work involves examining trees, marking timber, and conducting volume computations. This position surveys and marks the boundaries of timber sales, herbicide areas, and other forest habitat treatments.

You will have the opportunity to assist foresters in the collection of field data as well as application of herbicides for forest habitat management and maintenance.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Entering data collected by foresters into appropriate computer programs
  • Conducting State Game Lands stand examinations
  • Conducting surveys and preparing forest habitat type maps
  • Maintaining tools and equipment used in forest habitat management activities

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40-hours
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position will be headquartered at the Tioga County Habitat Management Crew headquarters office. The focal management area will be in the counties of Tioga, Potter, Lycoming, and McKean, but work will cover all of the Northcentral Region.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • An associate’s degree in forest technology; or
  • Completion of equivalent formal education in forestry.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
