Job Description

Summary

This job involves supporting food services in a federal prison by handling administrative tasks like typing reports, managing data in computer programs, tracking budgets and inventory, and preparing documents for submission.

It also requires helping maintain the security of the facility as part of the team.

A good fit would be someone with office experience in data entry, budgeting, and record-keeping who is detail-oriented and comfortable working in a secure environment.

Full Job Description

Corrections professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education: GL-06 and GL-07: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.

OR Experience: GL-06 and GL-07: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level.

To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled.

Some examples of this qualifying experience are listed per grade: GL-06: Experience entering and retrieving data, using Food Service programs, and maintaining disks with back-up copies.

Experience typing and proof reading a wide range of correspondence, memorandums, reports and other written materials.

Experience tracking and preparing reports, tracking and maintaining budget and typing budget requests.

GL-07: Experience that provided a basic knowledge of arithmetic and the ability to perform responsibilities associated with tracking and maintaining budget, stock records and logs.

Experience recording and transcribing minutes of various meetings, and compiling minutes for distribution.

Experience utilizing a financial management budget computer program, coordinating budget data and information and keeping an updated budget account for the department.

If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.

Types and proof reads a wide range of correspondence, memorandums, reports and other written material.

Enters and retrieves data, using Food Service programs, on a personal computer and maintains disks with back-up copies.

Maintains systematic files, ledgers, stock index records, inventory accountability procedures through posting receivers.

Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports for submission to the Regional and Central Offices.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution.

The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
