Full Job Description

This National Guard position is for a FLIGHT SERVICES SPECIALIST, Position Description Number NGD1458000 and is part of the 114 OSS FLT. This is a Title 32, Dual-Status position.

AREAS OF CONSIDERATION: All members of the South Dakota Air National Guard or those eligible to join.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard.

Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: Selected individual must be assigned to a compatible military position (up to MSgt) in the following AFSC upon date of hire: AFSC 1C7X1.

Aptitude scores can be checked on the vMPF or at the Customer Service in the Force Support Squadron and physical profile in the medical squadron.

Military grade inversion within the full-time work force is not permitted. The military grade of the full-time supervisor must equal or exceed the military grade of personnel supervised.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have experience, education, or training in following directives and regulations. Experience interpreting and applying published directives or regulations.

Experience communicating with others. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1-year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade.

Experience, education, or training in mission planning for preflight, in-flight, ground or command and control (C2) duties according to specific transportation functions.

Receives, interprets, extracts, and disseminates relevant data for mission planning or execution.

Experience coordinating and negotiating with organizations/personnel both orally and in writing to resolve differences/problems.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities (KSAs): Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a separate sheet(s) addressing the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) and how they relate to work experience, education or training.

Skill in coordinating and negotiating with organizations/personnel effectively both orally and in writing to resolve differences/problems.

Skill in interpreting, explaining, and applying a variety of regulations and procedures. Knowledge of characteristics, capabilities, and limitations of various types of aircraft, both DoW and civilian.

Skill in operating various communications devices such as radio, desktop computer, tablets, intercoms, etc. Major Duties:

As a FLIGHT SERVICES SPECIALIST, GS-2101-9, you will: Position is located in Airfield Management/Flight Services Branch which is responsible for coordinating and maintaining liaison with military, federal, and local agencies concerning airspace utilization, flying operations, aircraft emergencies, search and rescue operations, and natural disasters.

This full- performance level position provides direct support to unit and other military and civilian aircrews during scheduled and unscheduled flying and ground activities.

The incumbent works independently on standard and extended and/or rotating shifts to provide aircrews with information and assistance necessary for planning and conducting safe flight operations.
