Requirements

In this seasonal position, you will perform property and equipment maintenance of public fishing and boating facilities for the Huntsdale State Fish Hatchery.

These facilities are owned or controlled by the PA Fish and Boat Commission in Maintenance Area 4, a multi-county region in Southcentral Pennsylvania.

Work may also include the opportunity to assist in other improvement and construction projects and perform critical service duties to maintain PFBC facilities in this multi-county region.


Your primary duties will involve specialized skilled work in the maintenance and repair of Huntsdale State Fish Hatchery fishing and boating facilities through a broad range of tasks. These include:

  • Maintaining and repairing hatchery specific equipment.
  • Operating and performing minor repairs to construction equipment, boats, and other tools and vehicles.
  • Repairing and maintaining roadways, the interior and exterior of buildings, and other structures as needed.
  • Identifying and setting up for major repairs to be completed by other agency personnel or non-agency vendors.
  • Weed eating, litter picking, mowing access areas and dams, repairing damaged concrete launch ramps, installing signage, servicing mowers and tractors, and other miscellaneous tasks.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal, Full-time employment. This position is expected to work February through September, for a maximum of 17 pay periods
  • Work Schedule: Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. This position may require some weekend, evening, and holiday work as well as standby time. You will also be expected to be called in to work in emergency situations.
  • This position does not receive medical benefits.
  • Paid time off can be used after working 750 regular (non-overtime) hours in each calendar year.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience operating commercial or industrial-use wheeled or tracked motor vehicles used in grounds keeping, outdoor construction work, agriculture, mining, or forestry work; or
  • Two years of semi-skilled work experience in commercial building or plant maintenance and repair work; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Special Requirements:

  • You must possess an active motor vehicle license.
  • You must either possess at the time of hire, or obtain within the probationary period, a Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with Tank Endorsement and Air Brake Restriction lifted.


Additional Requirements:

  • You must be willing and able to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • You must be willing to be called in to work in emergency situations.
  • You must be willing to work some weekends.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
