Summary

Full Job Description

This employee will be tasked with assisting staff in daily operations of the Cheraw Fish Hatchery.

Job Duties Include:
  • Performing all duties necessary to maintain hatchery grounds, ponds, office, work buildings, residences, heavy equipment, tools, and other associated structures securely in a manner that will ensure maximum service, efficiency and aesthetic value.
  • Overseeing maintenance duties in the absence on the hatchery manager.
  • Implementing and carrying-out all animal husbandry duties necessary to ensure fish production meets annual production goals and assisting in supervising and delegating such activities.
  • Working in all phases of fish production operations.
  • Taking corrective measures or notifying direct supervisor of any existing/potential problems.
  • Following proper protocol in rearing, harvesting and distributing of fish stock.
  • Assisting in the preparation and management of culture ponds for stocking, rearing, and harvesting of fish.
    • This includes: water level management, vegetation control, fertilization regimes, preparation of catch basins for stocking and harvesting fish.
  • Performing daily maintenance and upkeep necessary to maintain fish culture systems and equipment in a manner that will ensure maximum service, efficiency, and aesthetic value.
  • Coordinating and conducting tours of facility.

Requirements

An associate's degree in the technical sciences and one (1) year of experience in wildlife or fisheries work; or a high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in wildlife or fisheries work.

Qualifications

Ability to operate and maintain trucks, mowers, and other farming equipment. Proficiency in one or more trade skill, such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, or similar. Ability to repeatedly lift and move heavy objects, operate landscaping and power tools, work outdoors in adverse weather conditions and work safely and comfortably in and around water. Ability to conduct routine water quality analysis and acts promptly to deter any loss of stock. Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally with supervisor, co-workers and the general public. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, mobile devices and cloud-based file storage.
