The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting
for a Fish and Wildlife Technician 3 located in Sand Point, Alaska!
What You Will Be Doing:
This position is part of a 3-person salmon commercial catch sampling crew for the Westward Region Chum and Chinook genetics sampling project.
This includes collecting data (fin clips, length, scales, species) from salmon harvested at commercial processors in False Pass and/or Sand Point, coordinating with processing facility staff, working closely with co-workers to complete data objectives, and living in a remote location.
Work hours include guaranteed overtime and are dependent on delivery schedule at the processor so may include working at night or in inclement weather.
This position is staffed for approximately 3 months from June through August.

This position is located at Sand Point, and the project utilizes crews in Sand Point and False Pass. Housing in Sand Point is an ADF&G bunkhouse.
The work schedule will be variable and include weekends, nights, and overtime indoors or outdoors at the processors.
Working hours may be long, and/or at night or outdoors in inclement weather and are highly dependent on the commercial fishery schedule.
Work takes place on docks and in processors around moving machines, forklifts, and people, and may require working in cold, windy, wet and slippery conditions.
You will work and live with two other ADF&G catch samplers to sample fish, enter data, and process samples in the field.
Sand Point and False Pass are both beautiful, remote communities on the Alaska Peninsula. Access is by small aircraft, and weather can sometimes prevent scheduled flights in and out of the communities.
Crews may be asked to begin and end their seasons in Kodiak before traveling to field stations, and if so, housing in a bunkhouse is provided in Kodiak.
Who We Are Looking For:
We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to express information to individuals or groups effectively, considering the audience and nature of the information (for example, speaking to a fisher versus a coworker).
Experience working as part of a team or a team leader.
Experience collecting, organizing, and summarizing biological samples and data. Computer Skills including experience using computers/tablets and Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel).
Ability and willingness to have a flexible work schedule dependent on commercial fishing closures and openers and work unscheduled changes in a remote location.
Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
Ability to collaborate effectively with others while working extended hours in challenging conditions, consistently maintaining professionalism, a positive attitude, and respectful working relationships.
