The OpportunityWSDOT is currently seeking a Fiscal Technician 2 to support critical financial operations and contribute to the overall mission of the WSDOT strategic plan.

This position provides fiscal activity support by applying principles of established procedures in recording, summarizing, and reporting fiscal activities in a variety of work areas, such as recordkeeping, auditing, analysis, budgeting, payroll, travel, purchasing, and other types of fiscal operations.

In addition, this position prepares and maintains fiscal records while compiling and ensuring the accuracy of reports.

This position also assists assigned organizational units with general office and administrative duties.


What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Fiscal Technician 2 will:

  • Interpret and apply fiscal policies and procedures to process invoices, vouchers, reimbursements, and other financial transactions using TRAINS and related accounting systems.
  • Review, audit, and verify invoices, purchase requests, and receipts for proper coding, authority, discounts, and accuracy; obtain approvals and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain and modify fiscal recordkeeping systems, databases, and spreadsheets; compile, reconcile, and prepare periodic financial statements and reports.
  • Maintain manual and electronic filing systems for fiscal, vendor, contract, and permit records in accordance with SOS and WSDOT retention policies.
  • Review and issue Special Motor Vehicle and Oversize/Overweight Permits using SNOOPI; verify compliance with WAC, RCW, and WSDOT policies.
  • Audit and review WSDOT’s timekeeping system (DOTtime) and other payroll documents for accurate reporting of hours, timesheet completeness, and proper labor coding. Tracks payroll time reporting for regular time, overtime, premium pay, special assignment pays, shift differential.


Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

  • Administrative and Fiscal Support: Experience performing general clerical and fiscal tasks with accuracy and efficiency, ensuring smooth office operations and compliance with established procedures.
  • Office Systems and Equipment Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to operate a wide range of office equipment, including computers, printers, copiers, scanners, fax machines, calculators, and multi-line telephone systems to support daily administrative and financial functions.
  • Technology and Software Expertise: Proficient in the use of Windows-based computer systems and productivity software, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), cloud-based platforms, and virtual collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams to enhance communication and workflow efficiency.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Skilled in effectively communicating information to diverse audiences, both virtually and in-person, using multiple communication channels including telephone, email, text, video conferencing, and online collaboration tools to ensure clarity, professionalism, and responsiveness.
  • Respectful Workplace: Experience contributing to a work environment that fosters a culture of respect and equal opportunity.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • Public Sector Fiscal Accounting Experience: Experience performing fiscal, financial, or accounting work in a public-sector environment.

  • This recruitment may also be used to fill additional positions per business needs.
  • The salary listed includes the legislative-approved 10% premium for FT2 positions located in Bellingham, WA, WhatcomCounty.
  • This position is not eligible for remote work.

  • In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
