Job Description

Summary

This job is for a firefighter who provides emergency medical care, fights fires, and handles hazardous material incidents at a Navy installation in Virginia Beach.

It involves driving specialized vehicles, performing rescues, and maintaining equipment to keep people safe during crises.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in firefighting and paramedic skills, plus the required certifications, who thrives in high-pressure team environments.

Key Requirements

  • Possession of all required certifications: Firefighter I & II, Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations, Hazmat Technician, Driver Operator Pumper, Driver Operator Aerial, Driver Operator ARFF, Airport Firefighter, and National Registry EMT-P (Paramedic) from DoD, IFSAC, or ProBoard
  • Experience providing emergency medical care, including advanced life support techniques for injuries, illnesses, heart attacks, strokes, and choking
  • Skills in fire suppression, rescue operations, and responding to hazardous materials incidents as part of a fire department team
  • Ability to operate firefighting vehicles and equipment, such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and rescue vehicles
  • Proficiency in radio communication with emergency personnel to report patient status and medical details
  • One year of specialized experience at GS-08 level or equivalent for GS-09, including fire prevention, protection, and mitigation of hazmat incidents
  • Maintenance of firefighting equipment and fire station facilities

patient history, current medical condition, treatment, and current patient status); 3) Performing rescue operations; operating radio equipment; performing fire suppression as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department brigade.

GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing fire prevention, fire protection, and fire suppression services; 2) Operating a wide variety of firefighting apparatus and equipment; 3) Responding to and/or mitigating hazardous materials incidents; and 4) Providing emergency medical care and/or basic, intermediate, and advanced life support measures.

  • You will maintain firefighting equipment and fire station facilities.
  • You will provide basic first aid care for conditions such as medical emergencies, including severe choking, heart attack, and stroke.
