Job Description

Summary

This job is for a firefighter who handles emergencies like building fires, aircraft incidents, hazardous material spills, and medical situations, while also inspecting safety equipment and training others.

It's based at a Marine Corps base in South Carolina and involves using specialized tools for rescues and hazardous responses.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on firefighting experience who stays calm under pressure and enjoys team-based training and mentoring.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-06 level in responding to fire, medical, hazardous materials, and aircraft emergencies

  • Proficiency in operating specialized equipment like hydraulic rescue tools, air bags, chemical monitoring devices, winches, ropes, and harnesses
  • Capability to respond to wildland fires, life safety situations, and munitions storage site incidents
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or equivalent medical response skills
  • Physical fitness for demanding emergency response duties

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Responding to fire related emergencies, medical related incidents, release of hazardous materials, and aircraft emergencies.

Inspect structures, extinguishers, fire hydrants, and alarm systems. Conduct and receive training, mentor less experienced peers as assigned.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will respond to fires and fire related emergencies involving structures, aircraft, motor vehicle, wildland, and hazardous materials.
  • You will conduct and receive daily training, covering all subjects in the fire protection and prevention field, pertaining to regulations
  • You will respond to any release of hazardous materials, munitions, and fires at various storage sites.
  • You will operate specialized equipment and tools unique to hazardous situations including hydraulic rescue tools, air bags, chemical testing and monitoring equipment., winches, ropes, and harnesses.
  • You will respond to a variety of scenarios including wildland fires, life safety situations, and aircraft emergencies.
