Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a firefighter on a military base, responding to fires, performing rescues, and providing basic emergency medical care to protect people and property, including around aircraft and fuel storage areas.

It's a hands-on role that requires quick thinking and teamwork in high-stress situations.

A good fit would be someone with prior firefighting experience, EMT certification, and a passion for public safety who can handle physically demanding work and shift rotations.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience as a fully trained firefighter responding to fires, using rescue techniques, equipment, and extinguishing agents

Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes working as a fully trained member of a firefighting crew engaged in the protection of life and property responding to fires using firefighting and rescue techniques, equipment and extinguishing agents utilizing trained knowledge of firefighter theory and tools; contaminated and/or hazardous areas requiring the full performance of firefighting tasks including building ventilation, fire extinguishing, emergency medical service(s) (EMS) apparatus operation, protective performance techniques as needed in the event to protect life and property.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and Hazardous Materials Operations certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M AND a CURRENT State or National Registry EMT Certification Card indicating a future expiration date.

The following certificates as a Firefighter (Basic Life Support) below must be obtained with in one (1) year of appointment: Airport Firefighter within one (1) of appointment Driver/Operator Pumper within one (1) year of appointment Driver/Operator Aerial within one (1) year of appointment Major Duties:

  • Serves as fully trained member of a firefighting crew engaged in the protection of life and property where large quantities of fuel products are stored.
  • As a member of a fully trained structural firefighting crew engaged in the protection of life and property will responds to alarms and combat fires requiring the full performance of firefighting tasks.
  • Serves as a fully trained member of a crash rescue crew engaged in the protection of life and property from crashed and burning aircraft.
  • Serves as driver-operator of one or more types of major motorized firefighting equipment, including but not limited to, pumpers, aerials, and AARF vehicles under all types of conditions.
  • Administers emergency care and treatment for illnesses and injuries of occupational and non-occupational origin for soldiers, dependents, government employees and visitors.
  • Performs alarm room watch on a rotating basis, which includes monitoring fire and rescue radios, automatic alarms, emergency and administrative phone lines and ADP equipment.
