Job Description

Summary

This entry-level job involves reviewing building plans, fire alarms, and safety systems to ensure they meet state fire and building codes, with some phone support for code questions and occasional travel.

Do you have an interest in building layouts or safety applications? If so, this opening may be a good fit for you.

The Plans Review Division of the WV State Fire Marshal’s Office is growing, and we are looking for a few dedicated people to join our staff.

At an entry level and under close supervision, the chosen applicant will review architectural drawings and specifications, fire alarm plans, sprinkler plans, and fire protection plans for compliance with State Fire and Building codes.

This position will also answer code questions by phone and some limited travel may be necessary. Knowledge of computers is a must as well as a willingness to work with the public.

May perform other job-related duties as assigned by Fire Safety Plans Supervisor and Division Director.

Chosen Applicant will be required to pass a drug test and comprehensive background check.

Qualifications

Training: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
OR
Substitution: Full-time or equivalent part-time paid or volunteer experience which involved
analyzing and interpreting structural blueprints and/or the interpretation or enforcement of fire regulations for occupancies, fire prevention, fire safety, building inspection, construction or a safety related field may substitute for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours of education.
OR
Any combination of experience as described above and successful completion of college coursework from a regionally accredited college or university may substitute for the training on a year-for-year basis.
AND
Special Requirement: A valid driver's license is required.
