Full Job Description

Maintains 24-hour response capability to all emergency calls for aircraft, structural, vehicular, medical and other. Protects evidence and performs salvage and overhaul of the fire scene. Participates in required training standards of: International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Career Field Education and Training Plan (CFETP), Grants and Master Cooperative Agreement (MCA) policy. State and local requirements. Serves as an Firefighting Equipment Operator or Firefighting Vehicle Driver assigned to a crew engaged in firefighting operations. Assists in reducing and/or eliminating potential fire hazards and reacting to the presence or potential releases of hazardous materials as a first responder to protect persons, property or the environment. Supervises resource level incident response. Performs hazard and risk assessment techniques in completing initial incident analysis. Performs crash-rescue and firefighting duties where hazardous conditions are such that the expectancy for fire is high and potential for becoming destructive is great. Delivers training initiatives. Manages subordinate time & leave through the designated system. Organizes fire safety prevention education delivery, coordinates Occupancy Pre-Incident Planning; Supervises; performs duties associated with response to fire, medical, Rescue, and hazardous materials incidents; supervises inventory, cleaning and preparation of company response apparatus and equipment; maintains operational knowledge of firefighting techniques, apparatus, and equipment. Knowledge of fire-fighting and rescue techniques. Knowledge of first aid and CPR. Knowledge of applicable fire codes. Knowledge of what constitutes a fire hazard and of what can be done to prevent fires. Skill in how to maintain and repair fire-fighting and rescue vehicles and equipment. Skill in the operation of emergency vehicles and equipment. Skill in the operation of fire-fighting apparatus. Ability to make sound decisions in critical situations. Ability to effectively supervise fire service personnel. Ability to keep accurate written records. Works under the direct supervision of the Captain, and under the general supervision Assistant Chief and Fire Chief. As the shift Lieutenant, you will be required to conduct and maintain shift training in accordance with CFETP and Annual training plan and certify training in ACES/FD. Additionally, conduct end of course practical examination and prepare all documentation to be sent for certification.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED). Must possess and maintain a current State driver’s license.

Must meet all special requirements for Fire Safety Officers I/II/III.

Must be able to meet the professional qualifications required by NFPA 1001 for Firefighter I/II; and NFPA 1072 as Hazmat Awareness/Operations/Technician; NREMR or NREMT, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I/II, Incident Safety Officer (ISO): Candidates are required to pass an annual medical examination to determine their physical ability to perform the job in accordance with National Fire Protection Standard 1582, Standards on Medical Requirements for Firefighters.

Additional Information

Employees are required to obtain a United States Air Force Motor Vehicle Operator's card during training. Employees will be required to operate vehicles on runways or taxiways and will be required to successfully complete Flight line Driver's Training annually. Candidates must be able to meet NFPA-1582 physical standards, wear Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), must have a favorable background check which is necessary to operate on networked computers. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with State Laws. McEntire JNGS Fire Department provides 24/7 coverage and consists of three shifts of 10 personnel, each working 48-hrs on 96-hrs off with an average work of 56-hrs and 212-hrs per 28-day pay cycle. Must be able to work with people of different gender or race. Employees in this classification are considered "Essential Employees" and are subject to be recalled 24 hours a day and must provide contact information.
