Job Description

Summary

This job involves inspecting buildings and facilities on Navy installations to ensure they meet fire safety standards, testing fire protection systems, and identifying potential hazards to prevent fires.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-07 in fire protection, including administering guidance on standards, testing systems, performing inspections, and handling specialized areas like industrial facilities or aircraft hangars
  • Possess Firefighter Instructor I and Fire Inspector II certifications awarded by DoD, IFSAC, or ProBoard (required for GS-08; lack of these makes you ineligible)
  • Ability to identify fire hazards and recommend modifications to prevention programs
  • Skill in evaluating construction plans and specifications for compliance with fire codes
  • Experience researching national fire codes and publications to eliminate hazards
  • Proficiency in inspecting and testing fire suppression systems
  • Relevant paid or unpaid experience, including volunteer work in fire protection

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Administer guidance on fire protection and system safety engineering standards and regulations to ensure fire safety codes are followed; 2) Test newly installed fire protection systems and equipment to verify compliance with building codes and regulations; 3) Perform a fire protection inspection of abuilding or storage facility to identify actual or potential fire hazards or fire safety deficiencies; and 4) Perform specialized fire inspections of controversial areas (e.g.

Industrial facilities, aircraft hangars, fuel storage facilities).

***This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for the GS-08: Firefighter Instructor 1, Fire Inspector ll.

These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement.
