The Fire Chief position involves leading the fire protection and emergency services team at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona, overseeing daily operations, training, budgeting, and planning for future expansions like new stations and equipment.
It's a senior management role in a military setting, focusing on keeping the installation safe from fires and emergencies.
A good fit would be an experienced fire service leader with strong management skills, certification in key firefighting areas, and a background in handling large-scale emergency responses.
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DHA for Defense Industrial Base (DIB) &Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTF) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: managing a comprehensive fire protection and emergency services program for a military installation, municipality, or large organization; leading firefighting and emergency services personnel; developing polices and procedures overseeing training certification program; managing emergency preparedness and response procedures and providing technical guidance to subordinates and/or leadership on fire protection and life safety requirements.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess Fire Officer IV Fire Inspector II Fire Instructor II HAZMAT Incident Commander Airport Firefighter Certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M.
