Base salary range: $41,966 - $54,557

This job involves working with financial data in the U.S.
Customs and Border Protection office, where you'll gather information, spot and fix errors, process payments, and help communicate with people inside and outside the organization to support their needs.
It's a good fit for someone detail-oriented with a background in finance or accounting who enjoys problem-solving and customer service in a government setting.
Entry-level candidates with relevant education or one year of experience can qualify for the GS-7 level.
Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Finance, Indianapolis, IN.
Additional selections may be made to include other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above.
Experience: You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Gathering and evaluating financial data Identifying and resolving discrepancies in the data Processing transactions in financial systems, communicating with internal and external stakeholders to provide customer service Education Substitution GS-07: Successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required at this level.
This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise a year of graduate education.
If that information is not available, use 18 semester or 27 quarter hours. OR Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) GS-07 may also substitute for the experience required.
It is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average (i.e., GPA 3.0 or higher of a possible 4.0, excluding pass/fail credits.
Pass/fail credits cannot be more than 10% of total credits), or (3) honor society membership. Review Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) to see if you qualify under this provision.

Education Substitution: Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree or two years full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited college or university or a LL.B or J.D.
may substitute for the specialized experience required at the GS-09 grade level. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study.
If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 36 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 2 years of full-time study requirement.
Combining Education and Experience: To combine your education and experience, you must convert each to a percentage and then add the percentages.
The combined total of your percentage of education and experience must equal at least 100% in order to qualify.
If your education is currently described in quarter hours, convert the quarter hours into semester hours by multiplying the quarter hours by the fraction 2/3.
To calculate your percentage of graduate education, divide the number of graduate semester hours in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level, by 18.
To determine your percentage of qualifying experience, you must divide your total number of months of qualifying experience by the required number of months of experience.
Add your percentages of education and experience. The two percentages must total at least 100%.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 01/21/2026.

As a Financial Program Specialist, you will provide financial program administration and analytical support to designated operational payroll, revenue, and/or financial reporting functions.
Prepares instructions and procedures relating to functional processes and provides management information about the Office of Finance's programs.
This position starts at a salary of $50,930.00 (GS-7, Step 1) to $80,991.00 (GS-9, Step 10) with promotion potential to $ (80,991 Step 10).
Typical duties include: Compiling and analyzing data used to develop and improve services relating to workflow, office procedures, financial control systems, and reporting.
Researching inquiries and providing support to stakeholders through the helpdesk functions or as assigned from management staff.
Following inquiries to resolution and/or referral to a supervisor or another branch within the Office of Finance.
Preparing statements and reports containing timely, accurate financial information used to manage financial projects and programs and to meet reporting requirements.
Determining the format, relevance, suitability, accuracy, and reliability of the collected financial information and the proper format for its presentation.
