Job Description

Summary

This job involves handling day-to-day financial tasks like processing payments, checking budgets, and supporting colleagues with money-related questions in the Drug Enforcement Administration's training office.

Key Requirements

Full Job Description

This position is located in the DEA, Operations Division, Office of Training - Academy Operations Section, Financial Management Unit (OTAF).

This position(s) primary purpose is to process various types of accounting transactions in DEA/DOJ accounting system (Unified Financial Management System (UFMS)); performs analysis of financial information using queries and reports; and providing customer support.

Applicants applying for the GS-09 must meet one of the following requirements: A.

Have at least one full year of specialized experience that is at least equivalent to work performed at the GS-07 grade level.

Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assisting in performing a variety of financial and budget related functions and administrative work in connection with financial and accounting systems within an office; 2) Reviewing documents for valid budget expenditure limitations, completeness and correctness of all financial data; 3) Responding to basic financial and accounting issues and inquiries; 4) Monitoring and maintaining financial transactions; and, 5) Ensuring funds are adequately safeguarded against fraud, waste, and abuse.

OR B. Education: Have a Master's or equivalent graduate degree -or- two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR C.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.

Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Applicants applying for the GS-11 must meet one of the following requirements: A.

Have at least one full year of specialized experience that is at least equivalent to work performed at the GS-09 grade level.

Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assisting in managing an organization's financial operations and related administrative support; 2) Processing various types of accounting transactions into automated financial management systems; 3) Performing analysis of financial information using queries and reports; 4) Interpreting and explaining financial legislations and procedures to customers; 5) Identifying and resolving recurring issues related to financial and accounting transactions; 6) Monitoring and maintaining financial transactions; and, 7) Ensuring funds are adequately safeguarded against fraud, waste, and abuse.

B. Education: Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree -or- three (3) full academic years of graduate level education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related. OR C.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.

Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

As a your typical work assignments may include: Assigns the proper accounting codes of funding as it relates to the approved budget and OT spend plans.

Conducts detailed examination of transactions for travel and acquisitions and researches various policies for required information and classifies accounting data for assigned accounts.

Provides customer service to vendors to reconcile transactions involving multiple funds or a number of different control accounts.

Serves as point of contact for field funding transfers for ammunition, training, and personal protective equipment.

Collects, reviews and validates financial data to support managing resources for assigned program areas.
