Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job involves inspecting and maintaining the city's storm water systems and public infrastructure, such as drainage pipes and roads, by visiting sites, assessing problems, and coordinating repairs.
Workers spend most of their time outdoors in tough conditions like weather extremes, construction zones, and underground spaces, often lifting equipment and ensuring safety rules are followed.
It's a good fit for someone with hands-on experience in construction or maintenance who is reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working irregular hours during emergencies.
Conducts site visits to assess requests and respond to situations where maintenance or repair of public infrastructures may need to be performed.Respond to situations where maintenance or repair of public infrastructures may need to be performed, frequently lifting and carrying equipment weighing 25 pounds.
Determines ownership and responsibility for areas in need of maintenance or repair. Determines type of maintenance or repair to be completed.
Ensures compliance with safety and equipment standards, standard operating procedures and service level agreements. Coordinates with appropriate personnel for maintenance and repairs.
Plans, coordinates, and controls work zone traffic. Prepares reports and maintains necessary records of work scheduled and performed. May have to perform minor maintenance and repairs when applicable.
Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required. Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job.
One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months.
One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

Knowledge of stream restoration, vegetation control, street construction and maintenance.
Knowledge of principles, practices, methods, and materials used in the maintenance and construction of drainage ditch systems.
Knowledge of procedures and techniques used in the demolition and construction of concrete drain structures. Knowledge of sign installation procedures, techniques, and methods.
Knowledge of tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair for daily operations. Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures.
Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations. Knowledge of hazards and safety measures related to maintenance.
Skill in utilizing a personal computer, associated software, and a two-way radio. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public. Ability to utilize all tools and equipment needed to perform daily functions.
Ability to estimate necessary time, materials and supplies needed to complete tasks. Ability to plan, organize and develop the work of a group of employees. Ability to exercise independent judgment.
