*Subject to changeDESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThis individual will plan, coordinate, and direct the activities of groups of workers within the same department who are engaged in providing maintenance to city infrastructure. Ensures that employees have adequate work supplies and properly functioning equipment to perform assigned tasks. Organizes and assigns the work of maintenance crews and monitors work in progress. Analyzes and resolve staff, equipment, and operating problems. Reviews operations policies and procedures; recommends changes to increase efficiency; implements approved changes. Sets up and maintains employee attendance records. Plans and conducts staff meetings; apprises staff of relevant occurrences and policy/procedures changes. Prepares, coordinates, updates and/or refer work orders to the appropriate entity. Trains and provide guidance to new employees. Oversee preventative maintenance of assigned vehicles, equipment and tools. Observes traffic control activities and follow safety procedures and regulations and ensure crews do the same. Assists with daily operations tasks as needed. Drives city vehicle.
WORKING CONDITIONSThis position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture/wetness and air pollution. This position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.
Requirements
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSRequires a high school diploma or a GED.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSFour (4) years of progressively responsible work experience in the maintenance field are required.
A Bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for the experience requirement.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTSA valid Texas Class "C" driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
Qualifications
Preference will be given to individuals with experience in working rigid and flexible pavement and work order system software/programs. Previous infrastructure is also desired with a focus on Operation and Maintenance.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
