Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping families in West Virginia determine if they qualify for financial assistance programs like TANF, conducting interviews to assess their needs, and connecting them to services that promote self-sufficiency and employment.

A good fit would be someone with a background in social work or customer service who enjoys working directly with people facing challenges and has strong organizational skills.

The role requires travel within the county and occasional overtime.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience in interviewing or helping troubled individuals/families
  • One year of paid experience in interviewing clients/public and evaluating data against standards, or assisting troubled individuals/families toward social development
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation for required travel
  • Ability to process applications, conduct telephone and face-to-face interviews within program guidelines
  • Skills in analyzing aptitude tests, developing employment goals, and making referrals to community agencies
  • Adherence to policies from the Office of Family Assistance
  • Willingness to work mandatory overtime and complete a one-year probationary period

Full Job Description

Under general supervision, perform work at the full-performance level by determining eligibility for all TANF and Economic Services programs accurately and efficiently. Assist clients in becoming self-sufficient via department services and community programs. Complete assessments and activity placements. Must process applications and conduct telephone and face-to-face interviews within program requirements. Analyze and interpret aptitude test results to direct the development of employment goals for applicants. Make referrals to appropriate agencies when necessary. Work must adhere to policies outlined by the Office of Family Assistance.

Employee must possess a valid Driver's License and must have access to transportation for required travel.

Performs related work as required.

Qualifications

Training: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Substitution: Any combination of college training and/or full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in interviewing clients, customers or the public and evaluating the data against established standards and guidelines, or in a field of work where experience has been gained in helping troubled individuals and/or families toward normal social development may substitute for the required training on a year-for-year basis.

Experience: One year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in interviewing clients, customers or the public and evaluating the data against established standards and guidelines, or in a field of work where experience has been gained in helping troubled individuals and/or families toward normal social development.

Additional Information

Probationary period of 1 yr.
