Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) – Facilities Maintenance Technician (Two Positions)
Join our team at the City of Portland’s Parks & Recreation Bureau. We are hiring two Facilities Maintenance Technicians to help maintain the safety, functionality, and longevity of parks facilities across the city.
In this role, you will perform ongoing maintenance and repairs on heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, lighting and electrical outlets, and a wide range of building equipment.
You will apply your mechanical and technical expertise to identify issues that could impair system performance and complete timely repairs to keep facilities operating smoothly.
You will also respond to urgent equipment failures, restoring operations as quickly as possible.
Additional responsibilities include a variety of building maintenance tasks requiring diverse mechanical skills.
Technicians use mobile devices to monitor HVAC equipment and manage maintenance schedules, and may also provide training or guidance to an apprentice.
Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) – Facilities Maintenance Technician
Join our team at the City of Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services. We are seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our wastewater treatment and conveyance facilities.
In this role, you will perform a broad range of hands-on maintenance activities, including inspecting, adjusting, installing, repairing, and conducting preventative maintenance on facility systems and structures.
Your work will span HVAC systems, plumbing, roofing, doors and windows, furniture, and exterior elements such as fencing and gates.
This position offers the opportunity to work independently while contributing to the overall performance of essential City infrastructure.
Supervisors provide guidance and support through onsite visits and review of completed work orders.The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical skills and experience working independently to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair different types of equipment.

Knowledge of building/facility automated control systems and components.
Experience performing building maintenance and repairs including scheduling and performing preventative maintenance inspections, repair of interior and exterior hardware, plumbing, and roof.
Experience performing installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems, such as the operation of chillers, boilers, fan systems, and pumps.
Experience performing repair and replacement of facilities electrical components.
Experience managing facility maintenance hazards and safety precautions, including applicable OSHA standards while working autonomously.

As part of the conditional job offer, candidates must complete a Prehire Evaluation during the hiring process/probationary period.
The Prehire Evaluation may consist of a medical exam, screenings, and a physical capacities test (PCT) required for work clearance and safety compliance.
The PCT measures physical ability through job-related tasks such as lifting, carrying, climbing, shoveling, and repetitive movements.
Unless already employed in a City position requiring a similar or more demanding PCT, candidates must pass all required tasks to proceed with employment.
